NDC Running Mate Campaigns In Party’s ‘World Bank’

BY: News Desk | Voltaonlinegh.com |
Running Mate to the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang has began a three-day campaign tour of the Volta Region.
Professor  Naana Opoku Agyemang who entered the Region through Juapong in the North Tongu constituency on Tuesday, 27th October, 2020, will be touring ten (10) out of the eighteen (18) constituencies as part of the first leg of her campaign in the region.
She was given a rousing welcome by the chiefs and people of the area including motor riders, market women, artisans and hundreds of members of other identifiable groups some of whom carried placards of various achievement and policy inscriptions of the NDC.
The NDC Running Mate is being accompanied on the tour by a cross-section of Constituency, Regional and National Executives of the party including the National Chairman, Hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Regional Chairman and Secretary, Hon. Henry K. Ametefee and Hon. James K. Gunu respectively. The Members of Parliament (MPs) of the various constituencies being visited by Professor Naana Opoku Agyemang, are also gracing the events of the Running Mate.
In a welcome address at a grand-durbar of the chiefs and people in honour of the NDC Running Mate at the Methodist School Park at Juapong, Manklalo of the Dorfor Traditional Area, Togbe Agbohla VI lauded the former President and the NDC for what he described as the numerous developmental projects the area had benefited from under the erstwhile Mahama administration.
According to him, all the five Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the district immensely benefited from a lot of educational infrastructure under the previous government including dormitory, classroom and administrative blocks, adding that the five SHSs also received one school bus each to facilitate movement of staff and students to programmes and other official assignments.
Togbe Manklalo said the situation was not different at the basic school level, saying the district benefited from twenty (20) modern kindergarten facilities in addition to more than forty (40) classroom blocks scattered across the length and breadth of the district.
The MP for the area, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa accused the ruling NPP government of not adding any new projects to the district project portfolio in the past four years, saying that amounts to lack of total commitment on the part of government. According to him, the constituency is yet to see any of the lofty promises of the Nana Addo-led NPP regime.
He mentioned the Volivo-Dorfor Adidome Bridge as a case in point. Another project is the Juapong-Adidome road which according to the MP was at seventy (70) percent completion within one year of its take-off only to see the project remained largely stalled in the past almost four years.
The MP demanded the immediate release of more than sixty (60) of his constituents who had been picked up in connection with what he described as the recent invasion of the district by some members of the secessionists groups including the Western Togoland Restoration Front (WTRF).
According to Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa, he wondered why such innocent persons were still being held in custody when the real perpetrators who carried out the real invasion on the dawn of 25th September, 2020 had been allowed to get away with the crime.
‘They should free all our North Tongu constituents because we know they are innocent. They have done nothing wrong to deserve incarceration for more than a month when the state itself says they are still investigating, they had nothing on them’, Mr. Okudzeto intimated.
Addressing the large gathering, Professor Naana Opoku Agyemang thanked the people of the area for being grateful to the NDC for transforming their lives. According to her, that is what the party stands for, adding that the NDC embraces all manner of persons irrespective of one’s geographical and ethnic affiliations.
She called on the people to return the NDC back to power in order to continue with its good work including securing total peace for all Ghanaians devoid of intimidation, fear and nervousness.
She also gave the assurance that the future NDC government would continue its good work in the road, rural electrification, education, health and other sectors of the economy as contained in the people’s manifesto.
She bemoaned the politics of insults and arrogance that are creeping into the fabric of society, saying they do not auger well for the peaceful co-existence the country needs to advance in its developmental agenda.
The Queenmothers of the area used the visit of the NDC Running Mate to honour and install her under the stool name, Mama Yingor I literally meaning ‘Progress or Forward Ever’ not only for her contribution to the development of the country but also for her sterling leadership qualities as a woman of substance over the years.
As part of the customary rites, Professor Naana Opoku Agyeman was decorated with Kente Cloth, Scarf, Beads and ‘Oheneba’ in addition to a stool on which she sat during the brief but impressive ceremony.
The National Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo launched the ‘Operation 98 Percent Votes’ for the party in the area where the NDC is expected to bag ninety-eight (98) percent of the votes in the North Tongu constituency for the Presidential and Parliamentary polls in December.
