By: Rita Kafui Nedjoh | Voltaonlinegh |

The Director-General Administration of the Ghana Police Service, COP Ken Yeboah has called on recruits to at all times be accountable for their actions to the people they serve and be guided by the motto of the Service in performing their duties.

COP Yeboah said, ā€œat all times, be guided by the motto of the service, ā€˜Service with Integrity’ which calls for honesty, respect for fundamental freedoms and human rights, professionalism, dedication, effectiveness and efficiency.ā€

He made the call at the passing out parade of 141 new recruits who underwent a six-month intensive training at the Ho Police Training School in the Volta Region on Tuesday, July 30, 2019.

COP Yeboah addressing the recruits

The all-male recruit squad was trained in Criminal Law and Investigation, Community Policing, Practical Police Duties, Criminal Procedure, Law and Evidence, Basic Officer Skills, Police Service Instructions, Arts and Decrees, Professional Policing Ethics and Report Writing.

Other academic disciplines included English and French language, Fundamental Human Right, Child Friendly Policing, Map Reading, First Aid, Client Care and Weapon Training.

COP Yeboah who reviewed the parade stated that the unprofessional conducts exhibited by some personnel in the Service such as extortion and brutality had resulted in loss of public confidence in the Service hence bringing the image of the Ghana Police Service into disrepute.

He however, charged the new recruits to be agents of change to strive and uplift the image of the Service, increase public confidence and coherent partnership with the public.

The Director-General indicated that crime prevention was a shared responsibility and that the public must take it upon themselves to feed the Police with information which would assist them in providing security for the citizenry.

He congratulated the recruits for a successful completion of their training while warning that people whose conducts and performances would be recorded contrary to the ethical and professional expertise of the Service during their 18-month probation period would be discharged and dismissed.

Deserving recruits were awarded in the various disciplines with Randolph Alexander awarded the overall best trainee.

By: Gladys Afetsi | Voltaonlinegh |

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has endorsed the Ghana International Music Clinic (GIMC) scheduled to take place at the National Theatre, Accra on November 20, 2019 from 8am to 5pm.

MUSIGA indicated its happiness in endorsing the event and hoped that it would help lift the standard of live stage musical performances in the country and the sub- region.

President of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kuffour (a.k.a Obuor), an enthusiastic stage performer with multiple awards, and skills in playing musical instruments on stage was optimistic about the objectives of the Music Clinic.

Obuor’s America and Europe tour some years ago was as a result of his conscious lyrics amplified by his animated live stage musical performance which gave his audience a good feel.

The advocate for live stage musical performances had no doubt that the expertise of facilitator for the Clinic, Carl Golembeski would help participants advance their performances.

The MUSIGA President said the organisation of the event was timely and would give participants the needed skills and techniques to advance their performances during this year’s Christmas events.

The organisers, Institute of Professional Event Management (IPEM) were confident that the clinic would offer participants in Ghana and the sub-region the opportunity to be the game changers in live stage musical performance saying, transforming studio quality to live stage performance was the best way to give the audience an exciting experience.

According to IPEM, there had been occasions that music lovers left many live music events disappointed by the performances of the artists because their live stage musical performances did not reflect the quality of their studio recording.

The organisers observed that in order to thrill music fans, live musical performers should always be at the their very best adding, musicians and sound engineers could only achieve this through acquiring the right training and urged them to show up at the event.

Carl Golembeski, the facilitator for the GIMC has for the past four years, worked as American singer, Beyoncé’s Vocal Fx Engineer developing a system to take her studio fx seamlessly into a live sound environment for real time control.

Carl is a sound artist, vocal fx engineer and music producer in various sonic territories with most of his career being in the form of live sound. By: Nelson Ayivor | Voltaonlinegh |

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ketu South Constituency of the Volta Region is livid over what it says are attempts by some officials of the National Identification Authority (NIA) to politicise the ongoing Ghana Card registration in the municipality.

In a communiquƩ issued on Tuesday, July 30 by the Constituency Communications Officer, Bright Dzila, the NDC bemoaned the undesirable conducts of some NIA officials who it alleged were known card bearing members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) bent on deliberately frustrating the public and abusing the registration process for political expediency.

The communiquĆ© said, ā€œwe have received tonnes of complaints about the priority been extended to NPP members to register at the expense of the general public.ā€

ā€œWe have also received overwhelming reports about delays in issuing the cards and in some instances, turning down potential registrants on the flimsy excuse of not being captured in the supposed ceiling of 30 people per day,ā€ it added.

The release further stated that some NIA officials stationed at Adina, a fishing community in the municipality usually closed at 1:30pm, hours before the stipulated 5pm.

The NDC is therefore calling on the NIA boss, Prof. Ken Attafuah to immediately address these issues in order to facilitate the smooth conduct of the exercise in the municipality. It also hopes to see a radical change in the conduct of the NIA officials.

Meanwhile, the Ketu South Constituency Chairman, NPP, Samuel Petit Haligah in an interview with local radio stations in reaction to the release, described the NDC’s claims as concocted saying that nothing untoward was happening and that the exercise was going on smoothly without any problems.

By: Ewoenam Kpodo | Voltaonlinegh |

Aspiring Parliamentary candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ketu South Constituency of the Volta Region, David Tiahno Quarshie is calling on delegates in the constituency to endorse his candidature to pull a surprise in the 2020 general elections.

Mr. Quarshie said a vote for him would mean an end to the long reign of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency considered as ā€œWorld Bankā€ of the ā€œWorld Bankā€ (Volta Region) of the NDC.

The businessman and poultry farmer who picked and filed his nomination form on Friday, July 26 said he ā€œis the sure bid for the NPP in the upcoming 2020 electionsā€ and ā€œthe best and the very solid choice of the voting massesā€ that would deliver victory for the NPP.

Speaking to Voltaonlinegh, Mr. Quarshie said he had the clout, the exposure and the track record and asked delegates in the orphan constituency (constituency without a sitting NPP Parliamentarian) to consider his works and give him the nod in the party’s primaries on September 28.

According to him, having risen from the position of a polling station Chairman to an electoral area Coordinator, Victory 2016 (V-16) Coordinator and a member of the Finance Committee from 2012 till date, he believed he had what was needed to be given the nod.

Mr. Quarshie fell on various contributions he made in the party and for people in the constituency which according to him, increased the electoral fortunes of the party during the 2016 general elections and argued that he would not only increase the votes in 2020 but wrestle power from the NDC candidate.

Such contributions included purchasing and branding Toyota Tundra Pick Up for use, printing over 2500 party branded Lacostes for members, supporting some schoolchildren with uniforms, supplying maize seeds to selected farmers, organising football galas and organising vocational training in liquid soap and bead production to impact lives.

Others were helping to fund two major party rallies and the inauguration of the well planned V-16 initiative which were attended by NPP bigwigs from the regional and national levels including the then Presidential candidate and the Vice, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and helping the communications team in the performance of their functions.

According to the aspiring Parliamentary candidate, he ā€œrepresents hard work, a win for the NPPā€ adding, ā€œI am incorruptible and easy going for the job as I am loved even by my opponents because of my hard works.ā€

The closed down Kwaakuae Health Centre

By: Benjamin Owusu | Voltaonlinegh |

The people of Kwaakuae in the Krachi West District of the Oti Region are raising concerns over closure of the health centre in the area saying it will deprive them of access to health care delivery.

The only health centre in the farming community has been closed down due to its dilapidated nature to avert any unforeseen happenings to the staff and the general public who will be accessing it but residents fear its closure will be disastrous.

Visibly developed cracks in the building

A visit by Benjamin Owusu to the community revealed that the shut-down clinic had visible cracks and was vacated by the staff who took the decision for fear of a possible collapse leading to their entrapment.

The reporter also found out that a newly constructed health centre attached with yet to be completed staff quarters remained under lock and rather serving as an abode to reptiles.

Other checks revealed that another health facility at Bobodin with its auxiliary structures has also remained in the bush after completion and not serving the purpose for which public funds had been advanced for its construction.

The yet-to-be-used new health centre at Kwaakuea

Speaking in an interview with the Assemblyman for the area, Francis Manu, he bemoaned the closure of the only health facility in the community saying, it remained a big headache as residents were being compelled to walk for long distances to nearby communities to have access to health care services.

Mr. Manu disclosed that the contractor at site abandoned the project as a result of lack of funds of which he (Mr. Manu) prompted the Member of Parliament for the area, Helen Adjoa Ntoso for assistance.

He appealed to the appropriate authorities to act swiftly and complete the staff quarters and get centre operational to take care of the health needs of residents.

Some residents who spoke to Voltaonlinegh argued that if the facility was not completed on time and operational, many might lose their lives to sicknesses because of the distance they needed to travel to access a health facility.

Ho West NDC MP Aspirant Calls for Transparent & Fair Primaries

Mr. Samuel Kofi Danku

By: Kofi Gamor | Voltaonlinegh.com |

One of three aspirants in theĀ  National Democratic Congress parliamentary race for the Ho West Constituency, Mr. Samuel Kofi Danku has called on party officers to discharge their duties in the spirit of fairness and transparency in the lead up to the party’s primaries slated for August 24, 2019.

According to Mr. Danku, who was the immediate past Chairman of the Anfoeta Wadamaxe branch of the party, providing a level playing field for all aspirants in the contest will engender confidence in the process and make the outcome of the primaries acceptable by all.

The businessman was addressing the media at the party’s constituency office at Dzolokpuita shortly after he filed his nomination forms last Friday to contest the Ho West primaries.

ā€œI have just filed my papers to contest in the Ho West constituency primaries of the NDC and I think that it was a very smooth process. I only urge them to be free and fair in the discharge of their duties in the process. The process must be transparent to everyone in the contestā€ he urged.

He also appealed the party delegates not to allow themselves to be influenced with money by any of the aspirants since that would amount to putting their conscience on sale but rather consider the fact that the constituency is lagging behind in terms of development and act in the interest of the development of Ho West.

He indicated that, ā€œI have come to restore the hopes of the people of Ho West that have been lost for a very long time so that the constituency can also put on the garment of development that has eluded us for a long time now. I also know that people would want to influence your decisions with money but I want to urge you not to allow your conscience to be bought by anyone. Nobody can buy your conscience.”

Mr. Danku however has a tall hurdle to cross as he would have to contend with the likes of the incumbent MP, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah who is seeking a fourth term and a private legal practitioner, Mr. Eric Alifo in the three-horse race.

Meanwhile the Ho West constituency secretary of the opposition party, Wisdom Kwame Sedzro has assured that,Ā  the constituency election committee has put a lot of hard work into the process to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants.

Vetting of aspirants who have successfully gone through the filing process is scheduled for 24th and 25th July at the NDC Regional secretariat in Ho.

By: Benjamin Owusu | Voltaonlinegh |

Leaders of two Kokomba clans, Nankpantiim and Bigbim at Sibi Hilltop, a farming community in the Nkwanta North District of the Oti Region have reconciled and promised to be at peace with each other.

Both parties reconciled after several mediation talks initiated by the military commander.

The two clans were at war with each other following violent clashes over a parcel of land which claimed two lives.

The clashes from Friday, June 28 to Saturday, June 29, 2019 resulted from the people of Nankpatiib wanting to construct a market on a parcelĀ  of land at Sibi Hilltop alleged to have belonged to the other faction who put up a fierce resistance leading to a gun battle between them killing two and leaving hundreds displaced.

Speaking to Voltaonlinegh after the engagement, Brigadier General A.Y. Nsiah, commanding the Southern Command, said the initiative was to meet both parties from Nkwanta North and South who were engaged in the violence and ask them to lay down their arms for dialogue to allow for peace to prevail.

According to Brigadier General Nsiah, Ghana could not develop if citizens continued to take up arms against their each other.

He disclosed that he was happy about the level of commitment shown after both sides agreed to live in peace after the fight and noted that the perpetrators of the violent clashes would not go unpunished.

Paramount Chief of Kpasa, who is a Konkomba, Ubor Konja Tassan VI, said he was very much ashamed about the fight between the two after Konkombas in the Oti Region pledged to ensure there was peace and order to enhance development.

Ubor Tassan who prior to the clashes led a delegation of Konkomba chiefs to pay a courtesy call on the Oti Regional Minister, Nana Akwasi Owusu Yeboah and assure him of their commitment to peace and order in the region, disclosed that plans were far advanced to meet both clans to ensure a lasting peace.
