The executives made the endorsement in a press conference held in Hohoe last Tuesday, July 3, 2018.

The statement which was read by the Regional Chairman, Makafui Woanyah stressed that “…we are convinced that it is about time we brought records to bare as the impending National Delegates Conference is days away, and more so to let all discerning patriots understand the fact that Mr. Freddie Blay has the support of the Volta Region NPP.”

0
Jackson Jakayi, Nkwanta North DCE

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkwanta North in the Volta Region, Jackson Jakayi, has appealed to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to situate a secretariat in his district to enable residents to access services of the scheme with ease.

According to him, residents are compelled to travel to other districts in a quest to register or renew their membership.

He described the phenomenon as “unacceptable and a slap on the face of the citizens”, when giving his second sessional address at the 1st ordinary assembly meeting at Kpassa, the district capital.

Mr Jakayi lamented that Nkwanta North District has been deprived of the needed development projects since its creation some 10 years ago.

He detailed that the district is confronted with numerous challenges, paramount among them being lack of a befitting assembly structure, health facilities, educational infrastructure and potable water.

“The lack of a befitting structure is seriously affecting the full integration of the departments at the assembly where some of the departments are housed in rented apartments. The assembly doesn’t have adequate staff to enable it perform its principal functions effectively”, he said.

Simal Nyofam

Speaking on education, the DCE argued that the continuous use of untrained teachers in schools is one of the contributing factors of non-performance and appealed for pragmatic approaches towards rescuing the fallen standard of education in the district.

He advised pupils to be disciplined, take their studies seriously and stay away from illicit drugs, such as tramadol, marijuana and other social vices to ensure a brighter future.

The Presiding Member, Mr Simal Nyofam, extended an invite to investors and philanthropists interested in the development of the district, assuring of the assembly’s support to ensure the district sees the needed development projects.

Avoid Politics to Develop Avenor-DCE Tells Chiefs

0

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akatsi South in the Volta Region, Leo Nelson Adzidoga has urged Chiefs in Avenor Traditional Area to avoid politics in their decision making to ensure development in peace in the area.

Addressing Chiefs and elders of Avenor during a media launch of 2018 Avenor Tutudoza (meaning development festival), Mr. Leo Nelson pleaded with the Chiefs to be non-partisan.

“Partisanship must be avoided in our drive towards the development of Avenor. When traditional rulers are seen to be indulging in politics, it will derail our efforts of reaching our objective.”

“A situation where Chiefs meddle in internal politics of political parties is a sure recipe for disaster” he said.

He blamed the current state of the area on chiefs’ involvement in politics, saying, “our society failed because of excessive partisanship. At this juncture of our journey our chiefs must remain absolutely aloof as far as politicking in Avenor is concerned.”

Torgbui Ahiamadorwu Godome III, Chairman of the Planning Committee also speaking at the event, called on the rulers and natives of Avenor to adhere to the call of the DCE.

He emphasized that Avenor citizens must commit to the development their area and the country.

Participants in a pose after the launch

“I have come to realise one thing, that no nation is really committed to the development of another nation. America was developed by Americans. Ghana can only be developed by Ghanaians so Avenor can only be developed by the people of Avenor”.

The Avenor Tutudoza celebration which comes off in November this year on the theme, “Leveraging our Heritage to Promote Development, Unity and Peace in Avenor”, is an initiative of chiefs of the area to bring development to the area which for a long time, has seen little development.

Kpando ‘Handball Homecoming’ Begins

0

Ghana’s Handball fraternity have converged at Kpando for a 3-day Handball Competition dubbed ‘Handball Homecoming’ on the theme, “Empowering the Youth, Education and Sports in Focus”.

The event which is aimed at raising funds for a Multi-Purpose Sport Complex at the Kpando Sports Stadium has many of the Handball Clubs as well as Officials in Kpando, to ensure its success.

The security services teams and Community teams, with one team from Kpando, will also battle not for laurels but for the pride of the town, from which most of them were groomed.

In an interview with TalksenseSports, George Bankole, who is the initiator of this event said it is their wish to help revive the sport in the town.

“When I was at Kpando as a coach, I brought up some players who have risen to a level in their career, working for the security services. Since I left Kpando, 8 years ago, activities of handball are dying because in my days, Kpando players were picked to represent the whole region. I was however surprised, there wasn’t any player from Kpando for Volta Region at last year’s Sports Festival with the exception of my son who captained the team.

“So I decided to organize all my players to come back. Then we use the occasion to appeal for funds for a Multi-Purpose court as the facility is deteriorating,” he added.

Bankole, who started his career as a Coach at Kpando and currently, Technical Director of Ghana Handball believes the event will drive the youth away from social vices.

“The devil finds jobs for the idle hands and because the game among other least financed sports is not going on here well, our youth have taken to drugs and other social vices. So we will have health talks, education, discipline and others which will empower the youth out of their current status. I am happy that many of my Handball people bought into this idea and are supporting it.”

The Program is expected to end on Monday, July 2 with a traditional soccer match between age-long rivals, Kpando Gabi and Kpando Zongo

Organizers of the event plans to have it annually to ensure completion of the Multi-Purpose Court and successful revival of the sport in the town and the region.

Bad Roads Killing My People- Biakoye DCE

0
Biakoye DCE (left)

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Biakoye in the Volta Region, Madam Comfort Atta has bemoaned the poor nature of roads in her district saying, it is putting the lives of her people in danger.

According to her, aside the challenges commuters on these bad roads encounter, some unscrupulous people take advantage of the situation and rob drivers and passengers on these roads.

She said the Kpando-Worawora-Dambai stretch of the Eastern Corridor road is in such bad shape that drivers go at very low speed on that stretch and fall victims (passengers inclusive) to robbers who lay ambush to for them.

Madam Attah revealed that a driver who was a victim of such attacks remained in the hospital morgue to be buried over the weekend.

She therefore called on the Regional Highway Authority to as a matter of urgency address the issue to safeguard lives in her district.

The DCE raised the concern following a presentation by the Regional Engineer, Ghana Highway Authority, Mr. Philip Agbati during the first meeting of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) held on June 28, 2018 in Ho.

Regional Minister flanked by his Deputy (right) and Director (left) at the meeting

Mr. Agbati’s presentation centred on programmes of the Authority for the year 2018 and the achievements made so far.

DCE for South Tongu, Emmanuel Louis Agama who was also in the meeting raised the issue of the deteriorating Lower Volta Bridge at Sogakofe. He expressed worry over the delay in rehabilitating the bridge.

His worry had to do with the Authority’s inability to reinstall some expansion joints that had worn off creating potholes on portions of the road which now serve as death traps to motorists who attempt to dodge these potholes.

In response, the Regional Engineer said the Authority has started processes to award a contractor for rehabilitation works on the Sogakofe Bridge, adding that the accidents on the bridge were unfortunate.

On the earlier concern from the Biakoye DCE, Mr. Agbati said the road projects have stalled because contractors working on the projects have not been paid due to cash flow constraints and hopes that the issue gets resolved for the contractors to return to site.
