Water Resources Minister Inspects Projects in Volta

BY: KALD | Voltaonlinegh.com |

The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah has embarked on an inspection tour of some projects under the ministry in the Volta region.

The tour, which started  on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 was for the Minister to ascertain the progress of work on two water projects, and a waste treatment plant in the region.

The water projects comprise, the third phase of the 5-district water supply project under the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) and the expansion of the Agordome Water Treatment facility under the Ghana Water Company in the South Tongu district.

The minister’s first stop was at Adidome in the Central Tongu District, where she inspected a Water treatment plant as part of the 5-districts water project. The solar powered facility produces over a million gallons of potable water daily.  She was conducted round the facility by officials of CWSA led by the Chief Executive, Ing. Dr. Worlanyo Siabi, as well as officials of Strabag AG from Vienna, Austria, who are working on the third phase of the water project.

Under the project, potable water is being extended from the Adidome treatment plant to communities in Adaklu, including the district capital, Waya at a cost of 11 million Euros.

It entails the laying of 110km transmission pipes from the Adidome treatment plant and the construction automated standpipes in the beneficiary communities.

According to the sector minister, “We are also adding 73 standpipes, and in the Adaklu district we will create 163 standpipes and transmission lines as well.”

She noted that, the project was scheduled to be completed in 24 months, adding that “we are holding the contractor’s feet to fire to make sure he finishes on time for His Excellency to commission the project”.

She reiterated that government was on course to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation by the year 2030.

This, she noted, was evident in the huge investment made by government in the water and sanitation sector across the country.

“ Last year, we were privileged to have His Excellency cut the sod for eight (8) major water projects totaling US$1.4million which will give 4.5 million people access to potable water,” she stated.

Madam Dapaah, who was accompanied by officials of her ministry, later visited Akrofu, in the Ho municipality, where an integrated waste treatment facility is being constructed by the Zoomlion Group.
