The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has assured that, the government of President Akufo-Addo will ensure the completion of the abandoned Eastern Corridor Road project, as an affirmation of the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) commitment to the people of the Volta region.
Dr. Bawumia speaking to Chiefs and elders of Gbi Traditional Area in the Hohoe Municipality on Saturday, May 19, 2018, averred that, the road was a measure of the NPP’s credibility, hence the government was working around the clock for work to resume on the abandoned road network later this year.
According to him, the road is important to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and discussions have already started regarding the completion of the project.
“I am very confident that the work on the Eastern Corridor Road starts again sometime this year. We are very focused on it, the president mentioned it in the State of the Nation’s Address, Ministry of Roads is very aware of it and we believe that it is a road which really measures our credibility as a government that we have to deliver on Nana Addo’s promise. By the grace of God, we’ll do it before the end of this first term.”
Dr Bawumia’s assurance was in response to the appeal by Togbega Gabusu VI, Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Council for the completion of the road project when he and his entourage paid a courtesy call on Togbega at his palace at Hohoe as part of a day’s Ramadan Tour of the region.
According to Togbega Gabusu VI, the Eastern Corridor Road from Peki-Hohoe and beyond is in deplorable after work on the project stalled for sometime causing businesses and other things in the area to suffer as consequence.
The Vice President said government has started fulfilling promises made to Ghanaians through the implementation of policies including Free Senior High School education, restoration of Teaching and Nursing Training allowances, reduction in Electricity Tariffs and is on cause to deliver on all pledges.
He talked about the recently launched policy, the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCO), it is being implemented to provide 100, 000 Ghanaians with jobs to reduce the unemployment situation in the country and encouraged all graduates who have been in the system for long without jobs to take advantage.
Dr. Bawumia kick started his nationwide Ramadan Tour from the Volta Region where he visited Aflao, Ho and Hohoe Central Mosques to pray with Muslim brothers and sisters in Ramadan (month of fasting) for God to maintain Ghana as a peaceful country.
He was in the company of senior government and party officials including Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, John Peter Amewu, Lands and Natural Resources Minister, and NPP Volta Regional Chairman, Makafui Kofi Woanyah during the tour.
