The Director of End Modern Slavery (EMS), Engage Now Africa (ENA), Mr. Afasi Komla, has touted that the ENA is poised to heal, rescue and uplift individuals who are faced with social challenges in Africa.
According to Mr. Afasi, the major root causes of modern slavery in some part of the world are poverty, ignorance and economic challenges which needs to be tackled.
“We have seen highly educated persons fall victims to fraud and Slavery due to lack of knowledge on the subject”, he noted.
In view of that, he indicated that Engage Now Africa, End Modern Slavery led by himself had made several efforts in working with stakeholders in Ghana to create public awareness thereby facilitating a deeper understanding of human trafficking issues in vulnerable and deprived communities.
He said, they are also increasing coordination among communities, districts, regional and international actors in the fight against human trafficking and child labour.
Mr. Afasi’s announcement come during an interaction with the media after Engage Now Africa (ENA), End Modern Slavery (EMS) in partnership with the Koforidua Department of Social Welfare have rescued a 14 year old girl from child trafficking and forced labour in Adweso, a community in the Koforidua Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Engage Now Africa used the opportunity to educate the Chief and community members never to hoard incidents of child trafficking and forced labour in their localities.
He further urge all and sundry to willingly expose perpetrators of child trafficking because the act is a crime which is against the fundamental human rights of every child.
