Volta Receives Hockey Equipment in Ho

The Volta Hockey Association has received equipment from Accra Citizens International Club and the National Coordinator, Dennis Ababio.

The donations were made on Saturday, May 12, 2018 during a day’s invitational Gala organised by the Volta Regional Hockey Association at the Ho Sports Stadium.

The one day Gala had Citizens International Hockey Club from Accra and Koforidua Hockey Club with host Volta Hockey Club engaging in a single round robin game.

A tough first match between Volta Hockey club and Citizens International Club ended 1-0 in favour of the host, after which Volta suffered a 3-0 defeat in the hands of the Koforidua Hockey club. Citizens then went on to play a 1-all game with the Koforidua lads.

It was a moment of joy, when Accra Citizens International Hockey Club donated 16 Hockey sticks to Volta Hockey Club while National Coordinator, Dennis Ababio donated 10 Juvenile Hockey sticks to the Association.

The Citizens also announced the adoption of Volta Hockey Club with the promise of constant support.

According to the Regional Coordinator, Peter Paul Osafo, who doubles as Coach of the Volta Hockey Club, the juvenile sticks are to develop and prepare the junior team for the Inter-Regional Basic Sports in August. He was grateful for the donations and promised to use them to further develop the game in the region.

“I will use this medium to thank the Citizens Club and the National Coordinator for their kind gesture and love shown us. We promise to also do our part; develop the game in this part of the country.”

Paul also confirmed to TalksenseSports (Davis Clottey) that they will have more friendly matches apart from regular training before departing for the Sports Festival.

“We will be camping before the Festival and that is what we will use to build up the team. But this is not the end of our preparation matches. We will travel to Koforidua for another match and probably Accra before the Festival in Cape Coast.”

The Association will expect indigenous players in other clubs for the formation of their squad towards the Sports Festival in July.

Volta’s Hockey team has a history of winning silver at the first ever Sports Festival (Unity Games) held in Accra.
