Some 36 persons in the Ho West District of the Volta Region have benefitted from government scholarship awards amounting GH¢60,542.00 to enable them pursue various degrees in tertiary institutions.
The beneficiaries who included 1 PhD student, 12 second degree students and 23 others offering various first degree and diploma courses, had Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery student at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho receiving GH¢5,020.00 (the highest amount) with the least amount being GH¢720.00.
District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Ernest Victor Apau presented the scholarship award letters to the 36 deserving students from the district on Thursday, September 26.
Mr. Apau reminded his people that the Scholarship Secretariat had been decentralised leading to the setting up of District Scholarship Review Committees to receive applications, interview applicants and shortlist them for the approval or otherwise by the national secretariat.
“This new policy has not only brought scholarships closer to beneficiaries but also made it more responsive to local dynamics.”
The DCE admonished the beneficiaries to excel academically to justify the confidence reposed in them emphasising that “the scholarship is liable to termination in the event of misconduct, unsatisfactory progress in studies and failure to pass any prescribed examination.”
He then encouraged the beneficiaries to accept posting to serve in rural areas upon completion and help spread the good works of the Nana Akufo-Addo led government.
