The Service Expects You to be Very Professional-Police Mgt to Recruits

By: Ewoenam Kpodo | Voltaonlinegh |

The Management of the Ghana Police Service has cautioned newly recruits to ensure their actions and conducts were guided at all times by ethics of the profession to win the trust of the citizenry in order to deliver on their core mandate of protection of life and property and prevention and detection of crimes.

Director-General/Finance, COP George Tuffour giving the caution, said a lot of sacrifices were required from the recruits for the safety of the public saying, “the police service expects you to be very professional in your duties”

“This means, you will have to learn the rules and procedures on carrying out your duties, take instructions, directives and guidance from your commanders and never react to provocative acts or insinuations,” COP Tuffour explained.

He gave the advice on Thursday, September 26 during the passing out parade of 227 general recruits who had undergone at least six months vigorous basic police training at the Regional Police Training School in Ho.

Mr. Tuffour who reviewed the parade said the recruits had been trained and prepared to contribute to the maintenance of law and order in the country.

“As part of their training, they were instilled with the ethos of team work, discipline, respect of for human rights and public safety. They were also taken through extensive classes in the laws of Ghana, with particular emphasis on the criminal codes and procedures, methods of taking evidence and general investigations.”

He believed that with dedication, safety-consciousness, honesty and integrity in addition to what their drill and classroom instructors “have been drumming into their ears,” they could deliver quality policing to the people of Ghana.

He assured of the Police administration’s commitment to improve the Service and said it was making efforts at obtaining logistics for quick responses in times of distress as well as plans to improve living conditions of personnel.

The former Volta Regional Police Commander solicited the support of the public in fighting crime by asking them to come forth with reliable and timely information while appealing to them to follow the right channels in addressing police misconducts saying, under no circumstances should civilians resort to the use of force and firearms against police officers.

The ceremony which saw recruits treating attendees including Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa and his Deputy, Rev. Johnson Avuletey, Head of Local Government Service, Nana Ato Arthur and heads of sister security services in the region to impressive performances  had seven award recipients with G/R Christian Gyan-Mante being handed “baton of honour” for emerging the  Overall Best Recruit.
