The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has kicked off the process of appointing Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) ahead of the inauguration of President-elect John Mahama.
In a circular sighted by VoltaOnline, General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has directed the NDC Regional Executives to work closely with Constituency Executives, MPs-elect, and the council of elders to receive and vet applications for the vacant MMDCE positions.
‘Each district must submit a list of three shortlisted candidates to the National Secretariat for the President-elect’s consideration,’ the General Secretary noted.
He added that, the selection criteria should prioritize balance within constituencies, considering the geographical representation of MPs.
He also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transitioning to non-partisan elections for MMDCEs during President Mahama’s term, and thus stressed on the need for applicants to embody the principles of unity, development, and service.
The NDC led by President-elect John Dramani Mahama will assumed governance of the country on January 7, 2025, having overwhelmingly won the December 7, 2024 general elections.
