The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued a stern warning to political actors and election officials ahead of Ghana’s 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
In a press release dated December 2, 2024, the OSP cautioned that it is a serious offense to willfully falsify vote counts or make false returns, and that such actions will be prosecuted.
The OSP emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in the electoral process, reminding the public that engaging in corrupt acts such as vote buying, vote selling, intimidation, and impersonation is strictly prohibited by law.
The Office also reassured the public of its readiness to address any allegations of corruption or electoral malpractices promptly and decisively. The OSP called on all citizens, election officials, and stakeholders to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could threaten the integrity of the elections.
According to Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, “The sanctity of our elections is paramount. We will ensure that those who seek to undermine the democratic process through corruption or fraudulent acts are held accountable”.
The OSP’s warning comes on the back of allegstions of voter inducement by some parliamentary candidates in just ended Special voting exercise on Monday, December 2, 2024.
