The Volta Regional Handball League will see the end of the first round on Saturday, May 19 with two matches.
The matches will be played at the Handball Court of the Ho Sports Stadium. The female team of Stars of Asha (SOA) plays Mawuli SHS at 1:00pm. Second place Stars of Asha targets a win, as they seek to close in on the gap at the top of the table. TERESCO comfortably sits at the summit with 6 points, while SOA are with 2 points. Mawuli will however, not be push overs in the tie, as they also seek their first victory since the league begun in November.
In the male category, Stars of Asha will lock horns with PROSCO at 2:30pm in another cagey game. SOA, who are not comfortable at the top, will drop to 2nd, should they lose to PROSCO, who will be on same points with both their opponents and Ho Technical University. SOA will however, have an upper hand having been able to defeat their opponents during the gala.
The maiden edition of the league is expected to have a quick second round with the number of participating teams reduced.
The Volta Regional Handball Association (VRHA) is calling on both community and school teams to start preparing for the second edition of the league. The Association has also planned a selection process for their participation at the National Sports Festival in Cape Coast.
VRHA however continues to seek funds for the league and other activities.
