It was an exciting week for Volta players in the National Division One League. Player performance has been exceeded my expectations. As a Writer/Sports Journalist from the region, I seek to follow, monitor and expose their exploits to the world. This Mid-week, our featured player is Wisdom Ameded.
Wisdom Ameded, born on 20th July, 1996 is a central defender who currently plays for Vision FC. The talented kid joined Vision FC 3 seasons ago from AC Sondisco. He rose through the ranks and now doubles as the captain for the side. He has featured in all 11 matches for his team this season. Even though he is yet to record a goal this season, his work rate and compulsive nature at the heart of defense makes it practically challenging for opposing team strikers to exert their dominance there. He was voted Vision FC’s player of the season in 2016. His athleticism and good play got him unto the starting 11 and lasted 90 minutes in his side’s 2-0 victory over Okyeman Planers. Goalkeeper Melike Dzado Rich was unused substitute. The goal keeper is expected to return to the starting roll soon.
Goalkeeper Massawudu Inusah was in the post and played full interim as Danbort FC suffered in the hands of Accra Lions. The shot-stopper continues his mixed stay in the goal post with inconsistent cheat sheets records. Vision FC put 3 goals pass him and went unanswered. Massawudu was a former player of Kwamekrom De Youngsters FC.
Kpando Heart of Lions came back to winning ways as they stunned Sporting Mirren by a lone goal. Goalkeeper Gabriel Nudakpa, Musah Amevor, Charles Quarcoo, Abednego Sarfo, all started for Hearts of Lions at the Teshie MATS Park in Nungua. Charles Quarcoo scored the only goal of the match on the 33rd minutes to secure all 3 points and got substituted in the second half. Eric Esso who started from the bench had a feel of the action on the 76th minute. Gordon Akaminko watched the game from the bench as unused substitute. Meanwhile youth graduate Samuel Agbenyega is yet to kick leather for Lions. Dickson Sakabutu was not part of the match day squad as he serves a 4 match suspension after receiving a red card in their game against Great Olympics.
Jacob Esso was named in the starting line-up for Sporting Mirren and lasted the entire duration in their 1-0 home lost to Kpando Hearts of Lions. The midfield enforcer played against his senior brother Eric Esso who made a substitute appearance for Lions. Meanwhile, Festus Nutakor’s  participation was only limited to the bench for Mirren.
Uncle T was treated to a Rosalinda dance by the Wonder Boys. Accra Great Olympics the newest relegated club held the league leaders to a 1-1 drawn game at Prampam. There was no action for Uncle T Striker Wisdom Attamah as he focuses on his tertiary exams. His participation in the league is expected after 23rd May 2018. This result means Lions have closed the gap at the top to 4 Points.
Striker Richard Dzikoe continued to show off his goal scoring form when he netted yet again for Kotoku Royals in their triumph over Akosombo Krystal Palace. Richard Dzikoe started the game for Kotoku Royals, lasted the entire duration in their 2-1 win in Akosombo. His goal brings his tally to 8. Meanwhile, attacking winger Stephen Kofi Nargy Agbo lasted the entire 90 minutes. Selorm Klutse was unused substitute.
Goalkeeper Daniel Aklamanu kept the post for Nania FC in their 1-0 narrow win over Tema Youth at the Legon Park. The young keeper continues to put in some sterlling performances this season. Daniel was a former player of Kpeve Lake United. There was no action for striker Perry Teh Agbo as he continues his recovery process.
Ali Idrissu missed Agbozume Weavers 0-0 home drawn game against Accra Young Wise. His absence was due to the head injury he sustained in their game against Akosombo Krystal Place.
Julius Brempong Ankamah was named in Accra Young Wise starting team. He lasted the entire duration of the game as his team drew 0-0 with Agbozume Weavers at the Somey Park in Agbozume.
Richard Amoah scored a sensational goal to help Accra Lions record a massive victory over Dandort FC. The goal is the midfielder’s second this season. Meanwhile, Fia Patrick and Benedict Wobenu all started in the game for the home team and lasted 90 minutes. The victory takes Accra Lions to the mid table.
Bright Hadzo continues his heroic performance in the National Division League. The goalie that currently plays for Wa Suntaa Sporting Club is yet to concede a goal in the 7 matches he kept the post for. Interesting as it may look, the young chap is on the verge of achieving something incredible. Bright Hadzo was the first name on the team sheet and lasted 90 minutes as Wa Suntaa Sc beat Nea Salamina 1-0.
Ghana (Premier League)
Asiwome Joy Fumador was not with the travelling Berekum Chelsea squad that drew 1-1 with Elmina Sharks in their outstanding premier league fixture at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.
Prosper Dayegbe Ahiabu of WAFA was named in the starting line-up and helped the national U20 team attained a first leg 0-0 drawn game against Algeria in qualifying to the Africa Youth championship. Prosper is a midfielder and a regular element in WAFA’S play this season.
Prosper Atsu Avor former right back of kpando Hearts of Lions was in his usual role as his team Liberty Professionals narrowly lost 3-2 to Aduana Stars. Prosper played all league matches this season.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko striker Mawuli Osei’s future with the Porcupine Warriors is still uncertain as various media outlets suggests the player has failed to impress Kotoko after his signature was acquired.
There was no action for James Akaminko (Ash Gold), Joseph Esso (Accra Hearts OF Oak), and Ivan Kpeglo (Inter Allies) as the Premier league took a week break for outstanding matches to be cleared.
These are the players I kept my eyes on; help me discover other guys from the region making it big in football.
