The governing New Patriotic Party is on the verge of a historic feat in the Hohoe Constituency as President Akufo-Addo has made significant gains in the opposition, National Democratic Congress’ stronghold.
Results of Monday’s presidential elections in the area, saw the President polling a total of 14,389 votes compared to his 2016 performance of 6,869 votes.
On the other hand, the NDC’s John Mahama witnessed a marginal decline in his 2016 performance of 35,117 votes to 33,542 votes in 2020.
In the parliamentary race, Energy Minister, John-Peter Amewu is highly tipped to flip the Hohoe seat to the camp of the NPP for the first time since the start of the 4th Republic in 1992.
Provisional results from 117 out 124 polling stations in the Constituency put Mr. Amewu in the lead with 24,074 votes as against the NDC’s Prof. Margaret Kwaku 19,883 votes.
If confirmed, Mr. Amewu will be the sole NPP MP in the next Parliament from the Volta region, as the NDC is most likely to retain the remaining 17 seats in the region.
