Former Minister and current CEO of Bui Power Authority, Hon. Samuel Kofi Ahiave Dzamesi, is set to contest the parliamentary primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party in the Ketu North Constituency.
Mr. Dzamesi, who had previously declined to participate in the primaries, reversed his decision at the eleventh hour, following a clamor for his return by the ‘Dzamesi For 2024 Campaign’ group. As a result, on the final day of nominations (10th of August, 2023), the group successfully submitted nomination forms for the party stalwart to enter the race.
In a statement copied to Volta Online, the group indicated that the change of heart by the four-time NPP candidate was a result of extensive engagement with party supporters, polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, and influential individuals across the constituency.
According to the group, his initial decision not to contest was reversed due to disappointment among party members and persistent calls from supporters urging Hon. Dzamesi to stand for office. The ‘Dzamesi for 2024 Campaign’, which aimed to contribute to the party’s “Break the 8” agenda, emphasized the importance of fielding strong parliamentary candidates across the country to enhance presidential votes.
They highlighted Hon. Dzamesi’s proven ability to increase presidential votes and make inroads in the Ketu North seat, citing his record in four previous elections.
The campaign has therefore called on well-wishers and stakeholders to unite and work towards achieving victory in both the primaries and the general elections.
