Some 204 students of the Data Link Institute of Business and Technology (DLIBT), have graduated at the 11th congregation of the institution last Thursday.

The graduands who completed their programmes of study in the 2019/20 academic year, were awarded Master Degrees, Bachelor Degrees and Professional certificate in various business and technology disciplines.

Located in the Tema metropolis, DLIBT is a private tertiary institution licensed by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) of Ghana and affiliated to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Education (UEW), University for Development Studies (UDS) and Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (JUST) in China.

Professor Smile Gavua Dzisi, President of DLIBT in her congregation address, said the granduands were products of innovative education delivered through dedicated study, practice, teaching, coaching, mentoring and counselling.  Asserting that, ‘they have not been churned out to join the flooding pool of unemployed graduates that our nation has been contending with’. But rather, ‘equipped to challenge their world in order to achieve the best for themselves, for their communities and for humanity’.

She commended the graduands for their tenacity of purpose and discipline during their time of study and charged them to make their newly acquired knowledge and skills useful for society.

Prof. Dzisi disclosed that, the institute has received a five-year institutional reaccreditation and also for all its undergraduate programmes from NAB; while processes were ongoing to secure accreditation for new post graduate and undergraduate programmes.

Touching on the COVID-19 pandemic, she revealed that, the global pandemic has adversely impacted the institute’s finances, forcing them to downsize staff numbers in order to stay afloat. Nonetheless, she noted that, the school functioned throughout last year during pandemic, as all academic and administrative works were done using virtual processes.

The guest speaker, Prof. Gabriel Ayum Teye, Vice Chancellor, University for Development Studies, speaking on the theme, “Leveraging Skills Acquisition in the Tertiary Institution Through Appropriate Technologies,” called for a paradigm shift in the mode of delivering education in the country by adopting appropriate technologies to facilitate teaching and learning.

According to him, “We must reform the courses up to the universities, making technology the centre of teaching and learning with the aim of instilling critical thinking to generate skills of the future in our students. The curriculum planners must get to work so that the universities would only be a place of polishing up.”

In all, 19 persons graduated with Master Degrees, Bachelor Degrees, 173 and the rest awarded Professional certificates.

Ms. Adelaide Anim-Annor, a Bsc Information Communication Technology graduand was adjudged the Overall best graduating student.
