Covid-19: Volta Active cases hit 108, Oti 2

Volta Region has bounce back from Zero active Covid-19 case as at December 2020 to record 108 new cases while  Oti region has recorded 2 new cases.

The rate of COVID-19 infections in the Volta Region seem to have increased drastically from 37 active cases to 108 within a week.

The latest update  from the Volta Regional Health Directorate also indicated that two persons have lost their lives to the deadly novel coronavirus recorded in nine out of the 18 Municipality and Districts in the region.
The Ho Municipality which is also the regional capital tops with 41 active cases, Hohoe -24 cases, South Tongu -18, North Tongu – 17 cases.

Meanwhile Ketu North -3 Central Tongu -2 cases. Ho West, Ketu South and Kpando have recorded  1 case each.

The Deputy Volta Regional Director of Health Services in Charge of Public Health, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto who confirmed the incident lamented about the disregard of the COVID-19 safety protocols across the region and urged all and sundry to take the protocols serious.

He observed that, strict adherence to these protocols; regular hand-washing with soap under running water, sanitizing the hand, wearing of nose masks, social distancing and reducing movements to the barest minimum will go a long way to reduce spread of the virus.
Oti Records 2 Cases

Meanwhile, a statement from the Oti Regional Health Directorate has service has it that, the Oti Region has recorded 2 active cases of the virus.

they said, the cases which were recorded on the January 21 2021 are the first set of cases confirmed this year.

In the statement  signed by the Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Osei Kuffour Afreh, they noted that,  the cases were confirmed a set of seven (7) samples that were taken from patients who complained of signs and symptoms at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nkwanta South Municipal on 18th of January, 2021 where results confirmed the infection  when their samples were taken and sent to the lab on 19th January 2021.

According to them, steps have been initiated for management of the cases even as contact tracing continues.

“In view of the resurgence of the disease, the following measures should be strictly enforced: reactivation of the rapid response teams, correct and consistent wearing of nose masks, social distancing, surveillance at entry points, increased sensitization and contact tracing.” they said

He entreated all treatment centres to remain alert and be prepared to work closely with staff deployed to them for the management of COVID-19 cases.
