The Richard Novati Catholic Hospital (COMBONI), a faith based non-profit healthcare facility serving primarily the community of Sogakope and its adjoining communities have received a newly built doctor’s bungalow from the South Tongu District Assembly.
The facility consists of; 4No. Bungalows within a Storey Building- (Each comprises of 2 Bedrooms, Living Room, Dinning Hall, Kitchen, 2no. Toilet/Bath, Store, Lobby and Porch), Staircase, Pre-Coated Roofing sheets, Plastic T&G Ceiling, in first floor Rooms, Eaves and Verandah, Plastic Louvre Carries and Louvre glasses, 2no. Overhead Water Tanks, Electrical Installations, (wiring, sockets, lights and ceiling Fans), Floor and wall tiles, Painting works, Plumbing Installations and Apron, Septic tank, Soak away and Inspection chambers seeks to provide a serene environment to the doctors to enable them work effectively in the hospital to promote access to quality healthcare delivery in the area.
Speaking to the media after commissioning of the facility, Hon. Emmanuel Louis Agama, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the South Tongu District stated that the project commenced in February, 2016 by his predecessor, Hon. Samuel Mawuko Eworyi but stopped due to change of government.
He said, he was able to complete the project in February, 2021 because when he resumed office as the DCE for the area, his main focus is to complete majority of the abandoned projects which he believes he is on course in delivering on his promises.
Hon. Agama said the project should have been completed and commissioned before 2021 but the contractor delayed in the execution.
He indicated that the project, funded by District Development Facility (DDF), was awarded to DEKPEY COMPANY LIMITED at a cost of Ghc 493,730.20 .
He urged the authorities of the hospital to make good use of the facility and also expect more of such projects in the hospital.
Madam Mavis Agumey, South Tongu District Director of Health in her address noted that The Richard Novati Catholic Hospital (COMBONI) has been one of the strong pillars of healthcare delivery within the district but the facility is faced with several challenges among which is the accommodation for doctors.
She said when the DCE was elected by the President, he assured them of finding lasting solution to the problem and here they are with his promises been fulfill.
Madam Agumey lauded the DCE and the South Tongu District Assembly for closing the gap of accommodation challenge in COMBONI saying they are expecting more to come in order to promote quality healthcare delivery in the area.
Mr. Adolph Bansah, The Administrator of COMBONI said the facility came at the time they are in dying need of accommodation for the doctors because majority of the doctors working in the facility stay in town
He noted that, this situation poses a big challenge to the authorities of the hospital especially in times of emergency hence thanked the DCE and his team for providing them with such a comfortable accommodation for the doctors.
He pledged that they will practice good maintenance culture in keeping the facility in good condition always, this he said, they have started doing by contributing to the completion of the project through tiling of the floors and provision of generated power which amount to Ghc 45,935.
Rev. Most Sr. Peter Huletey, VICAR-GENERAL, Keta-Akatsi Diocese in his remarks expressed their profound gratitude to the South Tongu District Assembly for their role in ensuring that they collaborate to bring health needs to the door steps of all people in the district and beyond.
He said there is a partnership for the Catholic Church and the State and it is his prayer that, this collaboration continues to prevail in ensuring that Ghanaians remain in good health.
