Residents of Adaklu-Waya, the capital of the Adaklu district, have been without electricity since Monday, January 13, due to a bushfire that destroyed three high-tension poles in the area.

The incident, which VoltaOnline gathered occurred around 3:30 pm on Monday, has left the district capital and its environs without power, adversely affecting socio-economic activities.

The situation has also forced some public servants to temporarily relocate to nearby communities, including the Regional Capital, Ho, to access the utility. “We’re struggling without power,” an affected teacher told VoltaOnline. “Our phones are out of battery, and the heat is unbearable. Some of us are now commuting from Ho daily to work.”

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)-Volta, Eunice Tweneboah-Koduah, has told VoltaOnline that frantic efforts are underway to find an alternative solution to restore power supply to the area, as the company is currently out of high-tension poles.

She also appealed to residents to exercise caution and avoid burning bushes close to ECG poles to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
