The Minister of Energy, John Peter Amewu was on Sunday acclaimed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the Hohoe Constituency.
The Minister who was making his third attempt at the Hohoe Parliamentary seat, was hopeful electorates in the opposition (NDC) stronghold will give him the chance this time to represent them in the August house.
The acclamation was done at a gathering of party delegates and supporters at an extraordinary constituency conference on Sunday at Hohoe. The conference aimed at getting party members battle ready for the task ahead in election 2020.
The Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Makafui Woanyah, tasked the party structures at the polling stations and constituency level to hit the ground running in earnest and propagate the good works of the Akufo-Addo government and the Minister in particular in the area.
He described Mr. Amewu, who is his predecessor as a valuable asset whose work in government stands tall, and ought to be in parliament to bring development to the people of the Hohoe constituency.
“Hon. Amewu is not new to any of you here. We’ve all witnesses to the good works he is doing in Hohoe and its environs. So it only be prudent for us to send him to Parliament to continue these good works,” Mr. Woanyah stated.
A Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, said Mr. Amewu, is not alien to the workings of parliament as he has been performing government duties on the floor as the Minister of Energy.
According to him, “The Minister is not new to Parliament at all. Almost every two weeks, he is in the house speaking to issues on the energy sector. I can say, he has spoken on the floor more than your current MP. So all he need now is your authority to perform parliamentary duties on your behave in the next parliament.”
The event which was held at the Old Cinema hall at Hohoe Zongo had the deputy Volta Regional Minister, Rev. Johnson Avuletey, and a host of government and NPP functionaries, including Regional Secretary Mr. Joseph Homenya and Regional Organizer, Mr. Korsi Bodja in attendance.
