The Akatsi South District Assembly in the Volta region has gained the status of a Municipal Assembly under the administration of the current government.

This announcement was made by the District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. Leo Nelson Adzidogah on the Kaleawo radio Morning Programme.

According to Mr. Adzidogah, the area has the necessary structures as well as the population that made it possible to attain such a status. He was however thankful to the Nana Addo led government for the elevation.

With the elevation, Akatsi South has joined the likes of Ho, Keta, Ketu South, Hohoe and Kpando assemblies as the only six municipalities in the region, which currently has 18 MMDAs.

The elevation will also bring to area, the services of the Department of Urban Roads, an agency of Roads & Highways ministry, responsible for developing and managing a sustainable integrated urban road transport system in municipal and metropolitan areas.
