16 players from the Vilcabamba Table Tennis Club will be participating in the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) and Stanbic Bank League at the Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.
The revived 2nd edition of the Club league will begin with a knockout competition on Saturday, August 25 with the round robin starting from September 1, will run for the next 18 weeks at 9am each Saturday. Registration of participants on the opening day is from 8am through to 10am when the games begin.
Vilcabamba Table Tennis Club, the oldest and most vibrant club in the region which has over the years participated in GTTA competitions have picked 6 female and male players who are optimistic of battling for the trophy and other laurels.
The four singles and a double format (i.e best of 5) league, will have Valeria Yayra, Millicent Selorm Ankude, Abigail Haenyeame, Ophelia Segbefia, Edinam Yevenu, Jemilatu Mensah, Matilda Fodu and Malwine Akator; while Bright Dzotsiafe, Dodzi Norvihoho, Edinam Tsar, Michael Kpeku, Frank Sedewonu, Emmanuel Galley, Selassie Setorwofia and Eli Aglago have been sponsored by the Club to represent the region.
Head Coach of the club who doubles as the Regional Table Tennis Association coach, David Senyo Ahiaba tells TalksenseSports, they target first 3 ranking.
“We couldn’t participate in last year’s league so our target for now is to be among the best three teams after the competition.”
Vilcambamba Table Tennis Club, which aims to sustain their activities to keep the development and promotion of the game in the region is however calling on cooperate bodies for sponsorship.
