It was a gathering of young minds at the Mawuli School assembly hall in Ho, where the ‘YoungandLoud’ festival unfolded, showcasing the creative talents of hundreds of high school students in art, music, and dance.

The event, held on Saturday, was organized as part of the three-year Young and Safe Project in the Ho Municipality, led by a consortium including Node 8, LoveAid Foundation, Ghana Education Service, and the Ho Municipal Assembly.

The Young and Safe Project aims to foster youth participation in city governance while addressing social challenges hindering their holistic development.

Courage Asase, Team Lead for Node 8, told Volta Online that the Young and Loud festival was to celebrate creativity and unearthed talents, contributing to the initiative’s goal of creating a healthy city for young people.

The day-long event kicked off with an outdoor art installation and exhibition, street painting, face painting, and transitioned into music and dance competitions, along with poetry recitals addressing pressing social issues like mental health, drug abuse, and streetism. Concurrently, the Youth Park Design hackathon and the Creative Futures Bootcamp added an innovative dimension.

The highlight of the festival was the electrifying performances by various artists, including  Keliyong, Tuf B, AfroKhelly and Keeny Ice, who kept patrons charged with non-stop entertainment.

Awards were presented to outstanding young creatives who excelled in the competitions. Some patrons who spoke to Volta Online  expressed satisfaction about the event and called for a repeat of the Young and Loud festival in the future.

The Young and Safe Project is supported by Fondation Botnar through the Healthy Cities for Adolescents Program.
