Pick Career in Oil Palm Sector, Youth Told

By: | Rita Kafui Nedjoh| voltaonlinegh.com |

The Principal of Fr. Dogli Memorial Technical Institute Mrs. Brigitte Dzakah has challenged the youth to venture into the oil Palm Value Chain industry to bring prosperity to themselves.

According to her, the current statistical analysis available shows several opportunities for the Ghanaian youth to venture into the industry as part of the concerted effort to meet the growing demands of oil Palm products.

She however noted that the West Africa sub-region spends millions of dollars to import tonnes of Palm oil which indicates that there is a growing demand for Palm oil and Ghana was not an exception.

Mrs. Dzakah however indicated that, Ghana has an internal unmet demand for a huge number of acres of land meant for oil Palm plantation and has the opportunity to explore the sector by further developing its oil Palm industry to meet the growing market interest in oil Palm products and derivatives both domestically and internationally.

Mrs. Brigitte Dzakah was speaking at a ceremony organized to graduate 104 ATVET learners under the Competency-Based Training (CBT) in oil Palm Value Chain at the Fr. Dogli Memorial Technical Institute at New Ayoma in the Oti Region.

The training organized by Solidaridad West Africa under the Sustainable West Africa Programme Phase II SWAPP II in partnership with GIZ, Ghana Skills Development Initiative GSDI, and Fr. Dogli Memorial Technical Institute was funded by the Swiss, Dutch and German government.

The first batch of 511 learners was drawn from 146 communities in 8 regions of Ghana from which 104 from the 6 regions thus Central, Western, Ashanti, Eastern, Volta, and Oti regions graduated from the Fr. Dogli Memorial Technical Institute in the Oti Region.

The graduates went through 10 weeks of competency-based training with a competency module on Nursery establishment, land transportation and plantation establishment, harvesting and agribusiness management (oil Palm).

She therefore advised the graduates to exhibit their skills, knowledge, attitude and competencies acquired from the CBT under the Agriculture Technical and Vocational Education Training ATVET programme in the various communities to prosper themselves and contribute to the development of Ghana.
