The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkwanta North in the Volta Region, Mr. Jakayi Kwame Jackson has disclosed that the search for oil in large quantities for drilling (oil exploration) will soon begin in the district and called on chiefs and people in the area for support.
Mr. Jakayi Jackson who informed his people about the presence of officials from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) in the district to carry out the oil exploration, appealed to the chiefs and the people to commit the activities of the GNPC into prayers for success so that Nkwanta North becomes an oil producing district.
The DCE made this known during a town hall meeting by the assembly at Sibi to outline government’s programmes and policies to the community members.
The meeting on Tuesday at Sibi, predominantly a farming community noted for yam production on a large scale, brought together chiefs and opinion leaders of the area to listen to the message from the assembly and to also put their problems before it for possible solutions to them.
Mr. Jakayi Jackson accounted to the people what he had done so far during his over a year’s stay in office as DCE.
The DCE who hails from the area entreated his people to take advantage of the numerous government programmes especially the cashew programme to improve their standard of living.
He appealed for peace in the area and advised the youth to be hardworking and desist from behaviours that will jeopardise their future.
The Chief of Sibi, Ubor Nbabila Lachu II complained of the poor nature of roads in the district which he said are impacting negatively on agriculture production in the area.
He called on the DCE to fix the numerous feeder roads that are not motorable in the district to help the farmers carry out their activities with ease.
The DCE in his reaction assured the people that the roads will be worked on using Kpassa-Mama Akura road which he said is currently being constructed.
He therefore asked the people to have confidence in the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fix all the bad roads including the Eastern Corridor road.
