 NGO Offers Free Medical Services to People in Volta

Gold Coast Medical Foundation, a US-based non-governmental organization (NGO) in collaboration with Springs Preparatory School has organized a day’s blood screening exercise for students and residents in the Ho Municipality to promote good health in the region and the country as large.

The exercise which was in two phases had the first phase at Dzodze, the Ketu North capital.

Medical Doctor with the Foundation, Kafui Gbewonyo said the exercise was aimed at diagnosing the students and their parents and offering them free medication and in few cases, refer them to a medical facility for treatment.

He said the team is made up of close to 50 volunteers comprising doctors, pharmacists, nurses, healthcare assistants and other healthcare professionals.

Doctor Gbewonyo added that the exercise was also to touch lives of pupils of school going age.

According to him, the doctors as part of their benevolent act are on a three-week Ghana Medical Tour to three different regions in the country.

He said the exercise started last week in the Eastern Region town of Kibi, the President Nana Addo’s hometown where over 300 patients were screened and provided with free medication.

He said at Dzodze, the exercise saw over 500 partakers benefiting from the free medical exercise.

He therefore anticipated about 1200-1300 participants to benefit from the process.

The Proprietress of the School, Lawrencia Mawutor Agbenyefia expressed her greatest appreciation to the team of doctors for the service saying, in this era of strange disease all over the world such activities were needed to keep the students and the community healthy.

Some of the participants commended the team for the exercise and asked them to make it a yearly event.

The occasion was graced by the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa.
