Lands Minister, Amewu Adjudged 2017 Most Distinguished Minister

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. John Peter Amewu has been honoured as the Most Distinguished Minister for the year 2017 at this year’s Ghana Entrepreneurs and Corporate Executive Awards in Accra.

The awards organised by the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana (EFG) on Saturday night at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, recognised Mr. Amewu’s outstanding leadership in the government’s anti galamsey (illegal mining) fight.

The fight is intended to curb the activities of illegal local and foreign (mostly Chinese) miners which have caused excessive destruction of the country’s vegetation cover and water bodies.

Mr. Amewu, a former Municipal Chief Executive for Hohoe in the Volta region, since his appointment to the Ministry of Lands and Natural resources last year, has been in the frontline, implementing policy measures and strategies to curb the menace which has become a national crisis.

One of such measures was the deployment a joint Military and Police anti-galamsey task force, christened, Operation Vanguard who are out in the galamsey endemic areas of the country’s mining areas, arresting the miscreant miners and putting  them  before the  law courts.
